Catalina Island

Here’s a quick post. Over the summer, I checked out Catalina Island to see what it was all about. I took the Catalina Express from Long Beach for around $60 roundtrip. Kinda pricey, but I guess it’s one of the “cheaper” ways to get to the island. Unless you swim.

So I realized that I get a bit seasick…..Be prepared.

Landing at Avalon

The water was beautiful. Upon landing, I saw a seal welcoming us. He was just swimming around. I think it’s a paid gig. Wish I coulda got a photo of him….

Rented a golf-cart for about $40 for an hour. I highly recommend it. One because it’s very convenient. And two, because it’s fun.

 Leaving at night.

New York, New York!

I recently went to visit my good friend Julie in New York . She has been there for 9 years and was planning to move back home to Virginia in the next couple of months. I had promised to visit her from LA before she got back and finally made it out there earlier this month. It has probably been a few years since I’ve been back to NY so I was pretty excited to see Julie in the city.

From Los Angeles, I first flew home to Washington DC and spent a couple days with friends and fam. That first weekend, I took the Eastern bus out of Chinatown DC, up to New York. They have pretty good deals at $35 round trip. I got my tickets from Gotobus.com. Be sure to get there early or you’ll be struggling to find a good seat. I got dropped off near Penn station and met up with Julie at a Borders bookstore, which was closing down….so sad…so sad. Anyways we grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed to her old apartment where I helped her clear out some furniture. She had to be out by the next day or so. To treat me, she took me to my first baseball game. Ever. Surprising? I guess so. It was at Yankee Stadium and they were playing against the Baltimore Orioles.

The photo above shows the view from our seats. Not bad view and the seats were plushy. Nice.

It was a total blow out. Within the first inning, the Yankees were up by 12 to 0. The final score was at 17 – 3. Ridiculous. Even for someone like me who doesn’t watch baseball,  I can tell the score was a bit different. On the plus side, I got to take some really cool pics. Especially with my zoom lens. Here’s Mr. Derek Jeter dodging a ball….and then walking away.

It was hard to decide on what junk food to gorge on. We ended up getting a bucket of fries and chicken sandwiches. Yummy trashy food.

While the Yankees were busy smashing the Orioles, we occasionally walked around the stadium. Lots of beer. Lots of food. Lots of souvenirs. That pretty much sums it up. Eventually we made it back to our seats and watched the rest of the game. It was pretty awesome. Thanks Julie!

After the game we headed back to Julie’s new temporary pad. The apartment was pretty awesome and the view was also pretty nice.

At night. Duh.

The rest of the trip, we visited some friends who were getting engagement photos in the park on Long Island, we walked around Highline Park, visited Chelsea Market, and wandered around the city. It was very memorable trip and I was happy I got to see Eiluj one last time in NY =) ….I’m getting tired of writing….Hey! Look! More photos! =)
